Philpot Lane Mice Sculpture

When you visit The Sky Garden, do walk along Philpot Lane and look for what many call the smallest permanent sculpture in London.

You’ll have to look up to see the Philpot Lane Mice as they are fixed higher than eye level but once you spot them you’ll wonder how so many people walk past without noticing them.

There are two brown mice with a large lump of yellow cheese and most people believe they are a memorial to two builders who fought over who had been eating their packed lunch.

The men are said to have blamed each other and fought so ferociously they fell from the high height where they had stopped for their break. Both men died and it was later discovered mice had been nibbling their bread and cheese lunch.
